June 11, 2009:

Oh boy...the fight over the sewers has heated up, as a couple of serious water scientists step up and start pointing out that the data suggests there's NO NEED FOR SEWER!  Yikes.

But the residents seem pretty convinced that they need sewers.  Not surprising, given that the pro-sewer folks have been very convincing that it's an environmental crisis in the making, despite the lack of testing data, etc.

My position is...hey if we don't have any better use for the capacity and they want sewers, why not give it to them.

I just wonder if we are using precious capacity in an area that's technically of lower priority.  I mean we keep talking that we want more economic development.  So why not put the capacity aside, save it for those that really need it, and focus on finding commercial developers?

Alas...I'll let the scientists fight this one out.

Either way, the residents & voters will decide June 23.  My hope is that before we go spending all of this money again on another sewer expansion, that we look at the data FIRST.  And decide collectively what it means.  THEN we look at our options for the capacity and decide what we as a community want to do with it.

I also want to examine other precious and limited resources, like road capacity and school capacity, and put those into the mix as far as what we want to do with our town moving forward... BEFORE jumping into another design effort.
